Business of Government
Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge were two presidents that favored conservative policies of government. Conservative means to create policies that aid the growth of big businesses.
Policy 1: A Return to Normalcy
This was Harding's main policy. It consisted of creating simpler times than the Progressive Era, a return to the Laissez Faire, and a beginning of isolation, or less involvement with foreign affairs. During the times of this policy, Americans became less civilized. There was intolerance, shown in the creation of the Klu Klux Klan. Another form of intolerance was shown with the Emergency Quota Act. With this act, to be able to immigrate in, foreigners had to take a test. Only so many of each foreign race could be in America.
Policy 2: Coolidge's Policies
Coolidge's wanted to have great prosperity with simple policies. He got 15 nations to sign the Kellogg-Braid Pack, which renounced war. With these conservative policies, the rich became richer, but the poor became poorer. Farm owners could barely keep their land, and some had to foreclose. Finally there was an overall decrease in international trade due to a terrible depression in Europe and our protective tariffs.
